Design to Renourish
Infographic

The designer is at the heart of many decision-making processes and plays a large role in a project's impact. In this poster, the designer is shown surrounded by the elements of the Quadruple Bottom Line – economy, ecology, society, and culture. The radiating circles overlap to convey the idea that everything is interconnected to various degrees.

The inner circle closest to the designer represents the processes which are integral to the entire system like end of life considerations, material sourcing, transportation, manufacturing and vendor practices.

Kistler and Knapp Builders
Branding and UX/UI

Company rebranding and website redesign for construction firm Kistler and Knapp Builders (KKB). The logo was designed with a post and beam concept to reflect their craft. The website serves as a portfolio to showcase their work with a large edge to edge photo on the homepage.  A prominent Call to Action is included in the secondary footer on each page to increase conversion rates for lead generation.

Environmental League of Massachusetts
Annual Green Budget Report

Annual Green Budget report design for the Environmental League of Massachusetts. Careful planning helped to reduce the environmental footprint of the printed report. The Green Budget was printed on 100% post-consumer waste recycled paper made with biogas energy, saving approximately 2 trees, 1.5 MBTUs of energy, 1,500 gallons of water, 500 lbs of CO2, and 150 lbs of solid waste.

Lake Street Architecture
Branding campaign

Design for an identity system for a client opening an architecture studio in Arcadia, Michigan, a small lake-front vacation town. I developed a set of dynamic logos that have multiple iterations. The concept for the identity was to convey modernity, flexibility, and imply architectural shapes and qualities. The color palette incorporates colors from the local scenery.

Altus is an interactive online tool to help incorporate sustainable systems thinking into traditional graphic design education. Altus provides flexible tools and resources for design educators to incorporate into their current coursework. These tools can be used a-la-cart or as a package however best fits the instructor's needs; making the topic accessible for all levels of familiarity with sustainable systems thinking. Altus is a comprehensive tool incorporating downloadable lectures, syllabi, project ideas, readings, videos, and teaching guides. The designs include a community wiki where instructors can upload projects, images, share comments, and contribute to the discussion surrounding sustainability pedagogy in graphic design education.

Cause Connections
Logo Design

Cause Connections is an international organization that pairs donors with philanthropic causes. The logo concept illustrates how one person can make a difference anywhere in the world with one simple act of generosity. I fused the two "n's" together to reinforce the organization's goal of connecting people to a cause.

Unwrapped: Wastae in the U.S.
2D & 3D Infographic

Pulitzer price winning author Russell Baker once said, "The American dream is to turn goods into trash as fast as possible." This full-scale 3-dimensional information visualization is a representation of each individual contribution to the total waste stream along with a breakdown of the items that comprises garbage in the U.S.</p>

Packaging accounts for the largest percentage of total waste in the United States: about thirty percent, or about 72 million tons. The poster is a closer look at what Americans throw away in packaging each year.

ELM Earth Night

Ultra Clippit
Packaging design

Packaging design has been known for ignoring efficiency to gain more advertising space or using more materials than necessary to create the illusion that the consumer is getting more for their money. The problems arising from this waste has taken a toll on our environment.

My goal was to satirize packaging to emphasize the ridiculous. The Ultra Clippit is one single paperclip packaged in a foam tray, secured with twist-ties, shrink wrapped and placed in a non-recyclable glossy box. The box is made from virgin tree fiber, has a Plasticine window, and finally shrink-wrapped. The design is an imitation of Tide detergent, one of the most widely recognized non-food packaging products.

Sage
Holiday Gala Invitation

Enormous amounts of waste is generated around the holidays. The goal for this invitation was to reduce our environmental footprint while remaining festive. To greatly minimize paper use, the invitation was designed as a self-mailer, omitting the need for an outer envelope. We also eliminated the traditional RSVP card and reply envelope with a request to reply via email. The piece was efficiently sized to the press sheet and printed digitally on recycled card stock. In addition, the mailing list was scanned for duplicates and old addresses updated. By taking these steps, we avoided printing more than we needed, decreased the amount of returned mail, and saved the company over $600.

Boston Teachers Union
Subway poster campaign

Art directed photo shoots and designed posters for the Boston Teachers Union. The goal of this campaign was to raise local support for the Boston Public School teachers among parents. Placing the posters in the subway and on buses ensured they would be seen by many Boston parents who's children attend the Boston Public schools.
